Supporting Autistic People To Grow & Thrive

Welcome to Autistic Realms Newsletter!

I have now completed my level 2 counselling and started my level 3. I am unlikely to be able to achieve my level 4 qualification under the current guidelines, as it involves student counsellors completing 100 hours of placement, with no more than 49 hours remotely.

This petition is so important!

As many of you know, I work exclusively online due to my own health and my children's needs. I have been to about 3 work events this year, and attending the amazing The National Diversity Awards with Thriving Autistic was my first time away from my children in over ten years.

It is currently impossible for me to manage 49 hours face-to-face, and I also know all of my future work will be exclusively online with the neurodivergent and disabled community, as it is now, as this is my passion.

The Equality Act 2010 requires service providers, including the BACP (British Association for Counselling and Psychotherapy,) and educators to make reasonable adjustments so that disabled people are not disadvantaged. By refusing to consider relaxing the 100-hour placement rule, the BACP is failing to ensure fair access for all students.

Many of us can't go out reliably or consistently for multiple reasons. Working online is a valid way to work and to support others who also want online counselling.

Every signature counts; you do not need to be a UK resident to sign, you just need to share my passion for equality, access, inclusion and want to make change happen!

Many thanks to Elizabeth Charnock for setting up this valuable petition!
